BIG NEWS! SEIU-ESF Named EPA Safer Choice Partner of the Year for 2024

We are proud to announce that the SEIU Education & Support Fund (ESF) has been honored as a Safer Choice Partner of the Year for 2024 by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)! This prestigious designation recognizes our ongoing commitment to promoting safer chemicals and practices for the janitors we represent, creating healthier workplaces and a more sustainable environment.

The Safer Choice program, led by the EPA, focuses on identifying products with ingredients that are safer for workers, communities, and the environment. ESF was recognized for our work with over 300 SEIU janitors across six states, training them through our Green Janitor Health Certification curriculum. This 30-hour course, developed in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council, highlights the importance of the Safer Choice label and empowers janitors to advocate for safer chemical use at their worksites.

Janitors are often exposed to hazardous chemicals without having a say in the products used at their facilities. The Green Janitor program equips workers with the knowledge to protect their own health, the health of others, and the environment by promoting safer cleaning practices.
