| New Emergency Grants for Health Care Workers |
AirBnB CEO and co-founder Brian Chesky has donated $1.5M to the SEIU Education and Support Fund (ESF) to be distributed to frontline care providers in recognition of their service in fighting COVID-19. ESF’s Frontline Care Workers Relief Program (“Program”) is now accepting applications through February 4, 2021.
Despite the generosity of the donation, there is unfortunately far more need than this donation can cover. For this reason, the Program has established priority areas. Priority will be given to frontline care workers in hospitals in El Paso and Corpus Christi, TX; and to those in nursing homes in Wisconsin, Michigan (with a priority for relief to workers in the Detroit-area), and Minnesota.
The Program will provide relief to eligible and qualified frontline care workers who suffer from unexpected emergency hardships due to the Covid-19 pandemic and seek relief from such hardship. These one-time awards of $500 are to help workers meet basic and critical needs, including housing, food, child care, elder care, transportation, and COVID-19 specific needs like PPE, cleaning supplies, and medical care (including mental health care).
